Daily Grain Price Calculations
How are the daily grain prices calculated?
Crusher Prices:
Each Monday, the crushers provide their basis number. The daily cash price is calculated each day by adjusting closing future price from ICE futures with the basis number provided on Monday.
Country Elevator Buying Prices:
Each Monday, elevator companies provide their basis number at various locations across Alberta for canola and barley. The daily cash price is calculated each day by adjusting closing future price from ICE futures with the basis number provided on Monday.
For all crops other than canola and barley, the Monday number is not adjusted and just posted each week.
Prices for each commodity will only be reported within a region if two or more buyers have submitted a price. We are continually working to increase the number of buyers submitting a price.
Note: this method of adjusting the closing futures price with the submitted basis was the same system used by the Alberta Grain Commission when they published the grain prices prior to October 2009.
